The camp
Herbstein is situated in the heart of the Hoher Vogelsberg Nature Park, one of Europe’s oldest volcanic landscapes – around 40 km north of Fulda, surrounded by ancient forests and vast basalt landscapes. Spanning over 85,000 m² of open space, the CVJM-Feriendorf offers everything a group event needs: tent pitches, accommodation, campfire sites and a stream right on the grounds. Here, the heart of nature beats loud and clear – and that is precisely what makes this place the perfect setting for our gathering. Easily accessible, unspoilt and unforgettable.

How to get there
The CVJM Feriendorf Herbstein is nestled in the Hoher Vogelsberg Nature Park in central Hesse, surrounded by basalt hills and forests. The nearest large city is Fulda (approx. 35 km) and the nearest airport is Frankfurt am Main (approx. 100 km). Visitors by car take the A5 or A7 motorway; those arriving by train change in Lauterbach (Hessen) and take the bus directly to the site’s own bus stop.

By Car
From the North / East
A5 motorway, exit Alsfeld Ost → B275 towards Friedberg/Lauterbach/Herbstein. Through Herbstein towards Lanzenhain; approx. 1.5 km outside town, follow the signpost left
From the West
A45 to Gießener Südkreuz → towards Wetzlar → exit B49 Grünberg → Ruppertenrod → right to Ulrichstein → T-junction left to Lauterbach → Engelrod right to Eichelhain → Lanzenhain → left towards Herbstein → turn right after approx. 500 m.
From the South
A7, exit Fulda Süd → B254 to Lauterbach → left onto B275 towards Herbstein → then as above for North/East
From the Southwest
A66, exit Wächtersbach → towards Birstein/Lauterbach → B275 towards Lauterbach → Grebenhain left to Schotten → Ilbeshausen-Hochwaldhausen left towards Lanzenhain (do not turn right towards Herbstein!) → Lanzenhain right towards Herbstein → turn right after 500 m.
By Plane
The nearest international airport is Frankfurt am Main (FRA), approximately 100 km away (~1.5 hrs drive).
From there, continue by car via the A5/A7 or take a train from Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof to Lauterbach (Hessen), then bus VGO 391. Further options: Kassel-Calden (KSF) and Erfurt-Weimar (ERF), each
approx. 110–140 km away.
By Bus & Train
Take the train to Lauterbach (Hessen) – from there, bus line VGO 391 runs directly to the stop at the holiday village “Herbstein CVJM-Feriendorf”. Timetables at www.vgo.de. From Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof, the train journey to Lauterbach takes approx. 1.5–2 hours (regional express via Fulda). Please check current connections at www.bahn.de.
Via Fulda: From Fulda Central Station (Fulda Weimarer Straße bus stop), take bus number 60 to Hosenfeld-Blankenau, then change to a bus to Herbstein Hessenstraße, and finally take bus 391 directly to the CVJM-Feriendorf. There is a dedicated bus stop right outside the building. Total journey time: approx. 1 hour 42 minutes.
